I’m honored to have collaborated with The New York Times, one of the most prestigious publications in the world.
Seeing my illustration featured in such an influential outlet is a milestone in my artistic journey. This project is especially meaningful because The New York Times happens to be my wife’s favorite newspaper—so the excitement is doubled!
The Story Behind the Illustration
The article I illustrated explores the changing perception of extinction and the dodo bird. For centuries, people struggled to grasp the concept of extinction, but as scientific understanding grew, so did our awareness of humanity’s role in the disappearance of species like the dodo.
Today, perspectives on extinction vary widely. Some see it as an inevitable fate for humanity. Others interpret it as a testament to our species’ power—proof that we have reshaped the world in profound ways. And some even view species extinction as a natural cycle, one that allows new life to emerge and thrive.
Bringing Ideas to Life Through Illustration
Creating an illustration that visually represents such a complex and thought-provoking topic was both a challenge and a privilege. Editorial illustration plays a crucial role in storytelling, helping to translate intricate ideas into compelling imagery.
